Montefiore Medical Center, the academic medical center and University Hospital for Albert Einstein College of Medicine, is a nationally recognized institution of clinical excellence with a community-driven focus that counts from cutting-edge limb-saving vascular surgeries to state-of-the-art prostheses and leading rehabilitation therapies for amputees.

We focus on comprehensive rehabilitation and support for the patient living with limb loss or limb difference: working closely with the vascular surgery teams as consult team for pre- and early post-amputation counseling; acute inpatient rehabilitation for pre-prosthetic training; and follow-up prosthetics outpatient clinic, working together with prosthetists to teach patients how to use their prosthesis, prevent complications and evaluate any needs throughout the continuum of care.

We have an interdisciplinary approach to limb loss and limb difference, with the support of our pediatric physiatrists, interventional pain medicine, and physiatrist within the Bronx and Westchester counties.

We treat patients with limb loss or limb differences across the spectrum including diabetes, peripheral vascular disease, trauma, infection, tumors, and birth.

We aim to maximize each patient’s independence to be able to have a good quality of life at home, at work, and in their communities. We have partnered with the Amputee Coalition to help support patients and families who have been impacted by limb loss and limb difference. We have an active Adaptive Sports Program for further support, for patients to stay physically active and reintegrated into their community.
