Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta is one of the largest pediatric clinical care providers in the country.   The Limb Deficiency Program at Children’s, part of the Children’s orthotics and prosthetics department, offers comprehensive, multidisciplinary care for young patients and their families, bringing together pediatric upper and lower extremity orthopedic and plastic surgeons, pediatric physical and occupational therapists, physical medicine and rehabilitation physicians, and certified prosthetists and orthotists. With access to more than 60 pediatric specialties through Children’s, the Limb Deficiency Program has additional resources available to assist patients as needed.

The primary goal of the Limb Deficiency Program is to assist children, adolescents and young adults with upper and lower extremity limb deficiencies achieve optimal independence and functioning at home, school, play and work.

Whether the limb difference is congenital (present at birth) or acquired (the result of disease, an accident or other trauma), it’s important for a patient to be matched with the right physician, certified prosthetist or orthotist, and therapist as early as possible.

Our prosthetists and orthotists are accredited by the American Board for Certification in Orthotics, Prosthetics and Pedorthics (ABC) and licensed to practice in Georgia. We work with physicians and other community health professionals to develop the best plans of care for our patients. Our in-house orthotics and prosthetics fabrication lab is the only hospital-based, accredited pediatric facility of its kind in Georgia.
